Prokera
What is prokera?
Prokera is a lens made using an amniotic membrane provided by an FDA-regulated tissue bank. The lens has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring properties. It is meant to provide the patient with quick symptom relief and reduce any inflammation that is associated with ocular surface disease.
What can prokera help with?
Prokera is an effective treatment for regenerating corneal nerves and tissue for Neurotrophic Keratitis (and other forms of keratitis), Recurrent Corneal Erosions, Sjogren's Syndrome, Corneal Ulcers, Chemical or Thermal burn Injuries of the Cornea, and more.
What to expect
Prokera is similar to a large contact lens. There may be slight discomfort, however it is not painful. The treatment period is 3-5 days from time of the lens insertion to when the doctor removes it. The doctor may tape your eyelid partially shut after Prokera is inserted.
