Myopia Management

Is your child’s vision changing every year? Do you have bad eyesight and worry about your child’s eyesight? Your child might be a candidate for myopia management.

Ortho-KERATOLOGY

The most effective and also FDA approved method of slowing the progession of children’s sight from worsening. They are hard, gas permeable contacts that are worn nightly as a retainer to correct vision and reshape the cornea. Adults are also able to participate in Ortho-Keratology.

DUAL FOCUS SOFT CONTACT LENSES

Dual focus contact lenses are a therapy in myopia management involving dual focus lenses that are worn during the day. The lenses alter the focus of your child’s eyes to help slow down myopic progression.  Misight lenses have been approved by the FDA for treating myopic progression.  If a different lens is needed, we will discuss the options with you before proceeding.

aTrOPINE dROPS

Atropine therapy uses prescription atropine drops to alter the focus of your child’s eyes to help manage myopia. Atropine alters the focusing system of your child’s eyes and prevents your child’s eyes from growing too quickly. Please note: Although low-dose atropine has been shown to be effective in treating myopic progression, the FDA has not yet approved atropine for this purpose.  We will ask for your consent to use atropine to treat myopic progression in your child before starting the program.

Dr. Park is a myopia management specialist and conducts a full evaluation to see if your child is at risk for myopic progression. Enrollment into our Myopia Management program gives your child access to all three treatments currently available in the US: ortho-keratology lenses, low-dose atropine drops, and dual-focus soft contact lenses. Her goal is to protect your child’s vision until it stabilizes in adulthood.
